The Best of Umbria - Tour Overview
Our first Best of Umbria held in 2022 was a fantastic adventure full of beauty: lush landscapes, medieval and renaissance architecture and modern takes on an ancient cuisine. Umbria is like Tuscany was twenty years ago, with a slow pace of life and country characters who offer you their hospitality. We’ll visit an Etruscan tomb that dates to before Christ. We’ll walk the streets that Saint Frances walked.
We’ll visit a unique winery and the hill towns of Montefalco and Spello. We’ll stay in the beautiful countryside just outside of Assisi and we’ll stay in central Spoleto and Orvieto. We’ll visit an artisan weaver whose workshop is in a Cathedral and we’ll visit the famous ceramics shop of Deruta.
We’ll finish the week in the magical city of Orvieto where we’ll take a cooking lesson from a chef who is keeping the ancient recipes of Umbria alive.
We would be happy to provide a ringing endorsement of our maiden voyage to Umbria. The trip was a love letter to this beautiful, unspoiled, off the beaten path region of Italy from start to finish. Every detail was planned with wonderful precision and checked every box that we could have imagined. We enjoyed perfect autumn weather, a treasure trove of insight from local guides and merchants and the inimitable camaraderie of Tuscany tour veterans who shared experiences from previous tours.
We were placed in the warm and knowledgeable hands of a tour company and staff who could anticipate our every want and need. We received an intensive, off the beaten path experience that made us feel less like tourists and more like country people. Our guides: Fede was a joy from start to finish, filled with energy and warmth and an abiding love of her craft. We also enjoyed our time with Michele and feel as though they made a great team.
