The Best of Piedmont
Turin, the Wine Country, and Lake Maggiore

May 20 to May 28, 2019

The Best of Piedmont is an 9-day tour that explores the cultural history, natural beauty, and rich gastronomic traditions of one of Italy's most fascinating provinces. You'll have a chance to experience Piedmont's urban sophistication, the small villages throughout its famous wine regions, and the breathtaking splendor of Lake Maggiore.

Turin View - Palazzo Reale

Our Piedmont adventure begins in Torino, land of the Savoy dukes and kings, first capital of unified Italy, and the home of Ferraris and Maseratis. If Italy has a city to rival Paris' broad boulevards, elegant cafes and ubiquitous bookstores, this is it. We'll visit the lavish Royal Palace, the Egyptian museum (Italy's finest!) and the spectacular "Mole" which started out as a synagogue and ended up as Torino's remarkable museum of the history of cinema.

Synagogue Casale Monferrato Royal Palace Corridor

The second portion of our trip takes us to the smaller towns and villages out in the countryside where you'll enjoy the bounty of Piedmont's rich gastronomic traditions. Piedmont is home to Barolo and Barbaresco, two of the famous varietals which have established Piedmont as Italy's pre-eminent wine region, rivaled only by Tuscany. In addition to vineyard and wineries, you'll enjoy artisanal cheeses, chocolates and other regional specialties in and around the towns of Alba, Asti and Bra.

Piedmont Countryside - Mountains

The final leg of our adventure will take us north to the picturesque town of Stresa on the shores of Lake Maggiore, once an obligatory stop on the Grand Tour. You'll stay in one of Stresa's most beautiful hotels right on the lakefront and enjoy views of the sparkling waters and the snow-capped mountains that surround the lake. And for our final day, we've arranged a boating excursion to explore the fabulous villas on the lake's fabled Borromeo Islands!
